For almost 5 months, I traveled around Southeast Asia and the South Pacific. This was not luxurious in the slightest. It was more of a soul-searching expedition than a vacation, really.

140 days, to be exact.

I'll start with my itinerary, so you see where I went. I covered a LOT of ground in these months...

  1. San Francisco, California
  2. Los Angeles and Long Beach, California
  3. Tokyo, Japan (to transfer airports)
  4. Bangkok and Krabi, Thailand
  5. Hong Kong
  6. Macau
  7. Manila, Coron Island, and Palawan Island, Philippines
  8. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
  9. Bali, Jakarta, and Belitung Island, Indonesia
  10. Penang and George Town, Malaysia
  11. Sydney, Australia
  12. Christchurch, New Zealand (for a week-long road trip around the South Island)
  13. Auckland, New Zealand
  14. Nadi, Yasawa Islands, and Suva, Fiji
  15. Brisbane and Gold Coast, Australia
  16. Los Angeles, California
  17. San Francisco, California

It may help to show you a map. I know it would me!

This is where I spent Christmas last year. Look at that gorgeousness! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

I seriously took this photo with my iPhone.

The really crazy thing is I almost forgot Christmas.

Normally, I have some subtle (and not-so-subtle) hints telling me the holiday is fast approaching. Like insane holiday decorations at your favorite department and retail stores. Or people talking about it online. Or the cold normally associated with American holiday mentality.

Not this year. There was nothing! No internet for a good month or more before Christmas. And it was really hot outside for almost the entire time I was traveling. Not that I'm complaining! ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐ŸŒดโ˜€๏ธ

I literally planned my itinerary around the seasons I would be experiencing where I would be at the time. This resulted in an average of 85°F/30°C temperatures (a rough guess) for almost 5 continuous months.

I wouldn't have been able to do this trip without the amazing people I met through CouchSurfing. I am forever grateful.
